Steven P. Hochberg
founder & CEO
Steve started Caliber Associates in 1988 and is recognized as one of the leading recruiters in the Life Science sector. Steve’s focus has been on recruiting CEOs, Board members, C-level and strategic teams for emerging Life Science companies and global biopharmaceutical companies. Steve has assembled a small team of highly experienced, results driven search professionals. Collectively they have contributed to the growth of more than 150 leading companies representing a track record of more than 700 searches completed.
Prior to his search career, Steve held strategic Human Resources roles with Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, FMC Corporation and Shell Oil Company. Steve has an M.S. in Organizational Development from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
Steve has been an active leader in community services and in Life Science organizations. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, served as President of his Synagogue and served on numerous committees including Life Sciences Pennsylvania, CONNECT, RAPS, Biocom and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization.
Director of executive search
Carol Willett brings more than 25 years of experience in retained executive search. Her expertise spans a variety of industry sectors including life sciences, hospital and healthcare, and technology. She has a passion for identifying current and future leaders and has conducted senior level assignments in the US and Europe for multiple disciplines across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors. Clients include seed-stage companies, small to mid-size biotech, as well as global pharmaceutical companies.
Carol joined Caliber from a global life sciences executive search firm where she recruited senior leadership positions and help build management teams across Research and Development, Commercial and General Management functions. She has also partnered with clients on numerous Board of Director searches.
Prior to working in the life sciences, Carol recruited for early-stage software companies and large multi-nationals for a leading search firm in the Boston area. She also helped build and grow the executive search practice for a boutique firm serving hospitals on the East Coast.
Carol began her career in the non-profit sector. She earned her bachelor’s degree in French Literature from Trinity College (Phi Beta Kappa). She currently resides in the New York metropolitan area.
Executive in residence
Mark is an Executive-in-Residence with Caliber Associates, leading our activities in the Boston hub and offering an exceptional level of experience, expertise and executive gravitas.
Mark is an experienced Human Resources executive and leader. He has lived and worked in the UK, Switzerland and is now based near Cambridge, MA. He has led large teams and overseen strategic Human Resources delivery in over 30 countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas. He has been a successful Human Resources partner to C-suite leaders in Drug Discovery, Drug Development, Global Functions and Marketing at Novartis. Prior to Novartis, Mark performed various Human Resource roles during nine years at Shell International in London.
Having partnered, hired and coached many preeminent scientific leaders, Mark is fully familiar with the qualities needed - technical, leadership and cultural - for executives to flourish.
Mark holds a post graduate degree in Human Resources, is an avid Chelsea supporter, enjoys running and lives happily with his family in Winchester, MA.
Juliana Mozi has served as the Administrative Manager for Caliber Associates since 2000. Over the past 18 years, Juliana has led Caliber Associates in the areas of Administration and Finance. Her responsibilities include handling logistics and communications with clients and candidates to ensure all aspects of the search process are smooth, efficient and effective.
Working closely with clients and candidates, Juliana is committed to seamless teamwork and excellent client service.
Prior to joining Caliber Associates, Juliana spent over 15 years working for a global pharmaceutical company, Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, supporting Human Resources for the R&D organization. During this period Juliana worked with the Senior Management Team and was actively involved in recruiting and staffing particularly focused on working with international executives. Additionally, Juliana was a team member of the Professional and Organizational Development Group.
Executive Assistant/Office Manager
Gianni Jaramillo is the Executive Assistant and Office Manager for the Caliber Associates West Coast office. She works directly with the CEO to maintain office efficiency through consistent communication, prompt scheduling and meticulous organization. She is responsible for managing client and candidate relationships and assists with business development initiatives.
Gianni received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science. While at university, Gianni held several administrative positions where she gained experience within the fields of information technology, civil litigation and financial recruitment.
A native Californian, Gianni enjoys exploring our national parks and annually takes part in Walk for Animals - San Diego.
Kaila Cooper has been a Research Associate with Caliber Associates since 2016. She assists the Caliber team with research, administration and business development activities.
In addition to her responsibilities at Caliber Associates, Kaila is an intern for the California State Assembly and is very active in civic engagement initiatives.
She is currently in her senior year at San Diego State University and will receive her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Urban Studies in 2019.
