President, Global Medical Affairs This East Coast based diverse bio-pharmaceutical company develops products in a number of disease areas including oncology, genetic diseases, renal disease, arthritis and endocrinology. The Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs will be responsible to review medical decisions within medical affairs, compliance, standard operating procedure (SOP) establishment and maintenance, and training in regard medical affairs activities for each of the medical affairs groups. The Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer and will have responsibility to mentor the various heads of Medical Affairs for each therapeutic of Business Unit area, who will directly report to the Senior Vice President Medical Affairs. In addition, the regional heads of Medical Affairs or in-country medical directors will also report to this person. Each of these direct reports will also have a separate reporting line to the business unit head or to the Regional head. Final responsibility for sign off grants, investigator-sponsored trials, and external education programs that involve payment to external physicians will rest with the Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs. The Business heads will provide guidance to the individual Medical Affairs heads regarding agenda of activities and needs, as well as priorities. The SVP, Global Medical Affairs will be a senior-level industry-experienced M.D. This person should have at least ten years experience in progressively responsible positions within the biopharmaceutical industry, much of which has been in Medical Affairs. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated track record of successful team development, leadership, and management experience. Mature judgment and the ability to mentor are key attributes for success. This person should have technical knowledge of clinical research, KOL management, publication planning, and medical education programs. A strong working knowledge of the rules and laws which govern medical affairs activities is critical. The successful candidate must have an ability to interface seamlessly with colleagues, understand relevant business needs, and integrate those needs into Medical Affairs strategies and tactics that support the business while complying with internal regulations and code of conduct.
